College-Wide Reading Program Book Nomination Form
Please use this form to nominate books for next year's College Wide Reading Program at Delaware County Community College. Please nominate books that fall under the following criteria:
- Present diverse or unique perspectives
- Have cross-disciplinary appeal
- Are readable by our entire population, including developmental and ESL students
- Can be incorporated into curricular and extracurricular activities
- Are available in multiple formats (paperback, eBook, audiobook)
Nominations should be relevant to at least ONE of the three potential themes identified as possibilities for next year: Mental Health, Media Literacy, or Climate Change. All three of these themes present different challenges and dilemmas that we, as a society, must grapple with in the years to come. Below are some examples of how these themes could be interpreted, but please note that this list is not exhaustive and other interpretations of these themes may be considered.
Mental Health
- A novel or memoir about a person’s struggle to cope with or access effective treatment for a mental illness
- An examination of how a large-scale crisis or traumatic event impacted the mental health of a community
- A discussion of how social media, technology, or other aspects of contemporary life are impacting mental health
Media Literacy
- An exploration of how misinformation and conspiracy theories spread and how this impacts society
- A practical guide for how to sort fact from fiction when consuming news media
Climate Change
- A futuristic story that imagines how climate change might impact human civilization
- An examination of how misinformation about climate change has spread
- A study of how climate change has already impacted certain communities (human or non-human) in various locations
