SpecitCast Series Presents "La Traviata" May 3
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • April 21, 2015)—Delaware County Community College’s SpectiCast series concludes this season with an HD film screening of La Traviata on Sunday, May 3 at 2 p.m. in the Large Auditorium in the Academic Building on the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).
La Traviata tells the moving story of how the beautiful but fragile courtesan Violetta is coerced into sacrificing her one hope of personal happiness for the sake of her lover’s reputation. A tragic and resonant tale of society and morality, Verdi’s masterpiece combines compelling characters with hugely powerful, moving and instantly recognizable melodies, making it one of the most emotionally engaging and popular operas of all time. Peter Konwitschny’s celebrated production returns to ENO, cutting to the very heart of the opera’s themes of passionate love and tragic death with a modern and uncluttered staging, a running time of less than two hours, and sung completely in English.
Now in its fifth year, the College’s SpectiCast series brings the classical realm of music, dance and opera closer to home for residents of Delaware and Chester Counties. Each performance is produced using a state-of-the-art audiovisual system and is choreographed to capture the fullness of the orchestral performance and the intimacy of the on-stage experience. Performances are filmed live in some of the greatest venues around the world and then broadcast at the College.
Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $7.50 for students and children. Tickets are available for purchase online and at the door 45 minutes prior to the show (cash only). For more information, please call 610-359-5266.
