I began my working life as a technical writer in IBM's programming laboratory in Poughkeepsie, New York. A few jobs later, while working at Cornell University's supercomputer center, a chance conversation with a researcher from LSU ended up with my receiving a fellowship to study mathematics in Baton Rouge. While in Baton Rouge, I entered the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1990. I spent a few years in San Antonio, a year in Austin, Texas teaching mathematics at St. Edward's University, and my final year teaching high school in Lake Charles, Louisiana. After leaving Holy Cross, I worked as an adjunct, part-time, or non-tenure track faculty member at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Jacksonville University, and Texas Tech University. I earned my Ph.D at the University of Central Florida in 2003. I spent the next eleven years teaching mathematics at Troy University's downtown Montgomery, Alabama campus. The big highlight of my time with Troy was a short-term posting at Saigon Technology University in Ho Chi Minh City. I joined the faculty at DCCC in 2014, and have been teaching algebra, pre-calculus (my favorite), business calculus, and calculus classes ever since. In my free time, I have been studying Chinese. 我说一点儿中文但是我不会写汉字。 I have spent two summers as a student at the Dalian University of Foreign Languages and one summer at the Chinese Language Institute in Guilin.
