(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • March 12, 2020)—To ensure the health and safety of students, faculty and staff, Delaware County Community College will shift all of its in-person instruction to online classes starting Monday, March 23 and through the remainder of the spring semester.
The College, which was closed this week for spring break, will extend spring break by an additional week for students through Sunday, March 22. During the extended break, faculty will plan and execute the transition to an online format, so that when all classes resume on Monday, March 23, they will resume online. Classes that were scheduled to begin the week of March 16 will begin the week of March 23, and will be online.
Faculty members will contact their students via email by no later than Friday, March 20 to provide specific instructions that will allow their students to access their courses in Canvas, a cloud-based learning management system.
Although in-person classes will move online, the College recognizes that some students may wish to visit our campuses and centers to access the Learning Commons, computer labs and other modes of technology. To facilitate access, all physical College locations will reopen to serve students on Monday, March 23. Student and academic support services also will be available as of March 23.
While there have been no known reported cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) linked to any of our College locations, over spring break the College took the proactive step of increasing its cleaning and sanitizing regimen at all of its locations. This cleaning and sanitizing regimen will continue.
In addition, for the remainder of the semester, all student related activities, including athletics and external events are canceled. Though the College regrets needing to take this action, an overabundance of caution is in the best interest of all who are part of the College community.
Staff should expect to report to work on Monday, March 16. In keeping with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidance, the College encourages faculty, staff and students to consider staying home if they feel ill, or if they have a sick family member in their home.
