Municipal Police Academy

Welcome to Delaware County Community College's Municipal Police Academy, serving the community since 1977.

The Municipal Police Academy at Delaware County Community College was one of the first schools to conduct police academy training for the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission in accordance with Legislative Act 120.

The Police Academy provides the basic training curriculum (Act 120) that is required for every municipal police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to work as police officers in Pennsylvania.

The Academy is certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Our faculty are active chiefs of police and police supervisors, as well as Assistant District Attorneys from Delaware County

Training will be conducted at Delaware County Community College's Malin Road Center, 85 N. Malin Road, Broomall, through December 2009. Beginning in January 2010, the Academy will move to its new home on the Main Campus.

In addition, we also conduct mandatory (Act 180) in-service training for current municipal police officers. This training is provided at locations across Delaware and Chester Counties. The Police Academy has been recognized as one of the best in the state by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission. Graduates earn a Certificate of Competency.

For more than 30 years, the Police Academy has produced 95 percent of all police officers in Delaware County and 75 percent of the force in Chester County.
