Papers – the Documentary Showing at Pennocks Bridge Campus
(West Grove, PA) The Office of Campus Life and Institutional Diversity Committee will feature the nationally acclaimed documentary, "Papers,” on November 15th at 6:30 PM at the Pennocks Bridge Campus (280 Pennocks Bridge Road, West Grove, PA) in the Cafetorium. The event is open to the public.
The movie "Papers" is a film that raises awareness about the lives of undocumented youth and educates audiences about what they can do to help make change on behalf of these extraordinary young people.
There are approximately two million undocumented children who were born outside the U.S. and raised in this country. These are young people who were educated in American schools, hold American values, know only the U.S. as home and who, upon high school graduation, find the door to their future shut.
More than 65,000 undocumented students graduate every year from high school without “papers.” The film follows the personal stories of five undocumented students and the national grassroots movement working to pass the DREAM Act. It also includes expert commentary from political, academic and civil rights leaders across the nation.
The challenges these students face and their organized efforts to pass the DREAM Act (a bipartisan proposal, which would create a pathway to citizenship for thousands of young students who were brought to the United States as children), are unknown to most Americans but are brought to light in “Papers: Stories of Undocumented Youth,” a feature-length documentary chronicling one of the most critical civil rights struggles of our time. The film premiered in nearly 50 states at more than 500 venues.
