Perkins Services
Delaware County Community College receives federal funding from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006. Administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Career and Technical Education, the purpose of the Act is to strengthen the academic and career and technical skills of students who are enrolled in career and technical programs. At Delaware County Community College, Perkins funding supports a variety of opportunities for Career and Technical Education (CTE) students.
SOAR (Students Occupationally and Academically Ready)
SOAR is a career and technical education initiative that establishes statewide articulations between secondary and post-secondary education. These programs of study enable high school graduates in career or technical programs to earn college credit that can be applied to their continued studies at the post-secondary level. Statewide articulation agreements are currently in place for the following programs:
- Accounting
- Automotive Technology
- Carpentry
- Culinary Arts
- Electro-Mechanical Technologies
- Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- Information Technology, Interactive Multimedia
- Machine Tool Technology
- Medical Assistant
- Network Engineering
- Office Administration
- Welding

Tutors
Improving the academic performance of students enrolled in challenging technical courses increases credential retention and credential attainment. At the College, professional tutors assist career and technical students in courses that apply to their programs. Tutors are available at all College locations.
Career & Technical Education Retention Specialist
First year college students or students enrolled in programs nontraditional to gender typically have higher attrition rates than other students. The CTE Retention Specialist position was created to assist students in career and technical programs to navigate their college experience and overcome the various challenges they will face. The CTE Retention Specialist works with career and technical students by referring them to services that will improve their academic performance, encourage their participation in the National Technical Honor Society, and offer workshops and coordinate events designed to help students succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Perkins Job Developer
Located in the Student Employment Services & Co-Op Center, the Perkins Job Developer works to research and develop job openings with area employers that align to the career and technical programs offered at the College. Information about these job openings are shared through the online job board, employer panels, and career fairs. Additional assistance to students is provided by workshops in interviewing and job preparation, and resume development and critique.
