Welcome to the Testing Center

The first step to putting students on the right path begins with testing to ensure a good fit between an individual's readiness and the rigor of the class. Placement test, SAT or ACT results are used for advising and course placement and do not count as part
of an overall GPA.

Entry-Level Tests & Preparation Programs

Placement Test
As part of our competency-based curriculum, Delaware County Community College requires high school graduates to be proficient in mathematics, reading, writing and speech communication. If students do not qualify for a waiver, they are required to take a placement test in these areas before registering for courses. If a student is placed in transitional courses, they are required to complete these courses before registering for more than 12 college-level credits.

New students may schedule their placement tests after they receive their acceptance package. Instructions for scheduling exams are detailed in the package. Students are encouraged to prepare for the placement test and may access information and study materials on studentportal.accuplacer.org.

To schedule an appointment for the placement test, contact Assessment Services (610) 359-5322 or (610) 325-2776 or email testingcenter@dccc.edu

On the day of the test, you will receive information on how to meet with an advisor and register for classes.

Finally, to review the College's placement retesting and placement test score expiration date policies, please click on the two links below:

The Orientation will provide you with a list of important College resources, as well as provide you with information that will help you accomplish your educational and personal goals. To access the New Student Orientation, please log in to delaGATE, and under the "Students" tab, select "New Student Orientation" from the "Student Services" menu

English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement Test
If your primary spoken language is anything other than English or you were not born in the United States, English as a Second Language (ESL) placement test is available.

To schedule an ESL Placement Test by phone, call 610-359-5322 or (610) 325-2776 or email testingcenter@dccc.edu.
More information and study materials can be found at studentportal.accuplacer.org.

ESL Placement Testing Process

After being admitted to the College, students whose Native language is not English and were not born and raised in the United States should take the ESL placement test. Scores on the placement test determine the courses to begin a successful academic path.

  • When you apply to the College, you will be given directions about taking the placement test

  • The ESL test will measure your aptitude in four subjects: listening and speaking, grammar, reading, and writing. To get more information about the placement test, visit studentportal.accuplacer.org.

  • On the day of the test, you will receive information on how to make an appointment with an academic advisor and register for classes
  • On the first day of class, instructors will give a test in the particular subject (e.g. ESL 023 Grammar or ESL 044 Writing) to ensure placement test accuracy
  • If students are eligible to take regular courses while studying ESL, advisors should recommend only those courses that require limited English communication skills.
