(Media, PA)—The Performing Arts Center at Delaware County Community College is pleased to present trombonist, Steve Parker, in an original program, “The Language and Sound Project,” on Sunday, November 21, at 3 p.m. The concert will be held at the Marple Campus in the Academic Building’s large auditorium.
The concert will feature electro-acoustic works written specifically for Parker. The music intertwines different modes of communication, from the contrapuntal language of J.S. Bach, to the language of chimpanzees, Texas cattle auctioneers and Tuvan throat singing.
The concert will include recent by Greg Robin, Corey Dargel, Gene Pritsker, Steve Snowden, Kamala Sankaram, Naftali Schindler, Timothy McCormack, Bruce Pennycook and Jacob ter Veldhuis.
Trombonist Steve Parker is a soloist, chamber musician and arts educator. An advocate of new music, he has commissioned or premiered more numerous in the US and Europe. He was named a Fulbright Scholar and awarded an ENCORE grant by the American Composer’s Forum.
Parker received a Masters of Music from Rice University and a BA/BM from Oberlin College in Applied Mathematics and Music. He is currently engaged as a Harrington Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin.
