(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)—Delaware County Community College student-athlete Fatumata Kaba of Sharon Hill (Academy Park High School) placed first in the nation in the women’s triple jump at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Meet, held May 7-9, 2026, in Utica, N.Y. She is the second national champion in DCCC’s history.
Kaba, who received her associate degree in Psychology from DCCC on May 14, also earned second place in the long jump. In 2025 she placed second and third, respectively, in the same two events. She will continue her academic career at either Yale University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or Vanderbilt University; she has been accepted at all three institutions.
“Being a national champion means ending my track career on a good note, as well as redemption for my performance last year,” Kaba says. “It’s a great finish to being a DCCC Phantom.”
Jimmy Love of Ridley (Ridley High School) blazed to fifth place nationally in the 100 meters, DCCC’s best-ever showing in that event, and Cheyenne McCarthy of Broomall (Marple Newtown High School) placed eighth in the 10,000 meters, the first DCCC student-athlete to medal in the event the school’s history. Kaba, Love and McCarthy all earned All-American honors.
“Our athletes have risen to the occasion, competing against the best in the country,” said DCCC Track and Field Coach Cara Fordenbacher. DCCC competes in the NJCAA Division III in a host of sports. For more info, visit dcccphantoms.com. To support DCCC Athletics, visit dccc.edu/makeagift.
