Jessica Lindsey and Christy Banks have been performing and teaching as the Spatial Forces Duo since 2008. They greatly value presenting works by living composers and working with students as a duo. Recently the duo traveled to the Yew Chung International School-Shanghai, presenting works by American composers for clarinet solo, clarinet duo, and one or more clarinets with electronics.
Christy Banks is Associate Professor of Music (Clarinet and Saxophone) at Millersville University of Pennsylvania where she also serves as Assistant Chair of the Music Department. Prior to her appointment to the Millersville University Music Faculty in 2005, Dr. Banks previously taught clarinet, saxophone, and related music courses at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Concordia University, Doane College, Union College, and Peru State College. She has been a member of many professional ensembles such as the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, the Nebraska Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and the Nebraska Chamber Players. Interested in newly composed music, Dr. Banks is a founding member of Lincoln's New Music Agency and performs with the Lancaster-based Naked Eye Ensemble. Internationally, she has performed at the International Clarinet Association's ClarinetFests® in 2011 and 2012 and as a soloist in Germany and Austria.
In Pennsylvania, Banks has performed with the Harrisburg Symphony, the Lancaster Symphony, the Reading Symphony, the Pennsylvania Sinfonia, and Opera Lancaster. Banks received her DMA and BM in clarinet from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an MM in clarinet from Florida State University. Her primary clarinet teachers are Diane Cawein Barger, Frank Kowalsky, Eric Ginsberg, and Wesley Reist. In addition, she studied saxophone with Robert Fought and Rebecca Gann. Dr. Banks is the Pennsylvania state chair of the International Clarinet Association and the founder of the Millersville University Single Reed Symposium.
