The Faces of Our Fathers Film Festival is an exploration into the dynamic, far-reaching impact of fathers and fatherhood. The festival offers four signature films that highlight the timeless themes of forgiveness, justice, faith and redemption. No film in the offering is more than 13 minutes long, but each has long-term impact. Each film is a journey onto a different road of a particular father. One road leads to the true story of Ulysses, Sr. a man who killed the mother of his son and 33 years later comes face to face with his son Ulysses, Jr. Another road leads to the fictional character Nimrod, a drug dealer who trades illegal drugs for the little girl of one of his addicted customers. Still another road leads to Carlos, a father of five who finds a newborn baby abandoned in the cold, back seat of his taxi cab.
Students attending the film festival will immediately see strong connections to social work, human development and socio-economics. Many students will also experience internal shifts, stimulated by the intense interactions of characters on the big screen.
Several profound questions emerge from the movie screen and the audience is left to ponder:
- “Should a man forgive his father for killing his mother?”
- “Can a drug dealer be a good father?”
- “Is religion a form of discrimination?”
