If a monkey snaps a selfie with a professional photographer's camera, who owns the copyright to the image? When does sampling a track or creating a visual mash-up violate copyright? Does attribution of a source protect me from copyright infringement charges? Is copyright bad for creativity? We will explore issues of intellectual property and copyright law by discussing examples from the music recording industry, street art, and digital media. Attendees will also learn what qualifies a creative work for copyright protection and how to register their own copyrights. (Prefer an in-person experience? Join us in the Marple Learning Commons for the live show, simulcast as a webinar!)
(Note: None of the information presented in this session constitutes legal advice, and attendees are not protected by attorney-client privilege. The presenter is a librarian, not a lawyer!)
