About the Exhibition
Delaware County Community College Gallery is honored to present Rico Gatson: Power Portraits, an online version of the Spring 2020 exhibition shuttered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Gatson’s multidisciplinary artwork celebrates the accomplishments of major Black American cultural and political figures. Power Portraits features examples from Gatson’s Icons series, a group of collages in which Gatson depicts Black creators and politicians using stylistic strategies from the Constructivist movements and Byzantine icon paintings. With subjects ranging from Toni Morrison and Nikki Giovanni to Medgar Evers and Barack Obama, Gatson’s art historical and cultural references combine to produce multilayered portraits of contemporary Black heroes. On View September 1–December 11, 2020 View the Exhibition »
