Summer Art Academy

Deepen your understanding of the visual arts and strengthen your portfolio this summer. High school art students and enthusiasts alike will benefit from the quality of the Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) curriculum which is supported by award-winning faculty and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Figure Drawing
This course will introduce students to the techniques necessary to draw the human figure. Instruction will help students to learn and understand proportion, gesture and shadowing. Professional models (clothed and nude) will pose for study and observation. Students are responsible for most materials. This is an important class for students looking to expand a college admissions portfolio, but all drawing enthusiasts are welcomed and encouraged to enroll.

Digital Photography
It’s time to take your camera off auto mode. Learn to control your aperture, shutter speed, color and establish an artistic intent with hands-on activities. Students will also learn to create a workflow for capturing and creating digital prints, which includes digital processing in Adobe Photoshop and/or Lightroom, printing on an inkjet printer, and presentation of the finished print. Digital processing and printing topics include maximizing image quality at capture, color management, sharpening and noise reduction, proofing, color and black & white printing, and making local and global edits to color and tonality. Throughout the course, students will work with images as a class by making a print, evaluating it, making modifications and ultimately producing a final print. Participants must have a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera and must bring it to each class session.

Beginning Guitar
Learn basic first position chords, basic strums, and basic finger picking while using popular tunes to learn these techniques. In addition, learn various music notation associated with the guitar including tablature, standard music notation and block chord forms. You will be learning new tunes each week and will be playing a song in the very first class. This is a "hands-on" class so bring your guitar to every class.
