DCCC Apprenticeship Programs

Delaware County Community College joins the U.S. Department of Labor in celebrating National Apprenticeship Week, affirming apprenticeships as “a key strategy to ensure the American worker is equipped for the skilled jobs of today and tomorrow.”

Connecting Area Students Directly to Apprenticeship Opportunities 

Delaware County Community College serves as the required technical instruction provider (RTI) for eight apprenticeship programs and counting.

Apprenticeship Sectors include:

  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Shipbuilding
  • Welding
  • Machinists

PACE+ Pre-apprenticeship

PACE+ prepares students to apply for Electrical and Carpentry union-registered pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship opportunities. Pace+ also equips participants with the foundational skills and readiness needed to pursue shipbuilding apprenticeship opportunities at Hanwha.

NAVFAC Apprenticeship Program

Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) is the U.S. Navy’s global facilities and infrastructure organization and operates a U.S. Department of Labor-registered apprenticeship program designed to develop skilled trades professionals for its public works departments. DCCC is the Apprenticeship, Required Training Instruction (RTI) provider for NAVFAC.

NAVRAC currently has two apprentices enrolled at DCCC, an electrician and an HVAC apprentice. The College provides their apprentice curriculum training and they are employed by the Navy Facilities command.

Philly Shipyard, Inc. which is now Hanwha Philly Shipyard is a leading U.S. commercial shipyard constructing vessels for operation in the U.S. Jones Act market. It possesses a state-of-the-art shipbuilding facility and has earned a reputation as the preferred provider of oceangoing merchant vessels.

Established in 2004, this is a 3-Year Apprenticeship Program.

Highlights:

  • The three-year, time-based competency program takes candidates with little or no experience and trains them to be multi-skilled employees in Welding and Machining. 
  • Apprentices receive 29 college credits for completing the apprenticeship program. Credits are awarded by Delaware County Community College towards an Associate in Applied Science degree in Technical Studies
  • Since 2004, more than 200 prospective shipbuilders have accepted apprentice positions. 70 graduated and over 50 are still at Philly Shipyard. Some are now supervisors.
  • The program is registered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
