Chester Trades Education Project (CTEP)
Overview
The Chester Trades Education Project (CTEP) is a collaborative initiative aimed at providing Chester residents with tuition-free, post-secondary education and training in the skilled trades. Launched in 2021, CTEP focuses on equipping students with practical skills in Building & Facility Maintenance, leading to certifications and associate degrees that pave the way for sustainable careers
Program Highlights
- Commitment: Two-year program, Two evenings per week. Year 1: Class meets at Riverside Futures, 3201 West 2nd Street, Chester City. Year 2: Class meets at the Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Rd. Media.
- Curriculum: Includes safety, technical skills, blueprint reading, and foundational courses in carpentry, HVAC, and Electrical.
- Certifications: OSHA 30; CPR, Certificate of Proficiency in Building & Facility Maintenance.
- Pathway: Students can continue to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in the Skilled Trades.
- Hands-On Experience: Practical training through partnerships with local organizations, such as the Chester Housing Authority.
Job Outlook
Graduates of CTEP are well positioned to enter the workforce in high-demand skilled trade positions. The program’s emphasis on practical skills and certifications aligns with industry needs, offering pathways to employment in construction, carpentry, and related fields.
Cost
- Free for eligible Chester residents for the 29 Credit certificate.
Eligibility
Age Requirement: 18 years or older.
Residency: Must be a resident of Chester-Upland School District.
Participants must be willing to complete the two-year program and participate in hands-on training components.
