Delaware County Community College

Gould Award 2007
Linda A. Durkin, Associate professor of business

Linda A. Durkin, associate professor of business at Delaware County Community College, has been named the 2007 recipient of the College's coveted Gould Award for Teaching Excellence. Durkin, of Boothwyn, received the award at DCCC Commencement exercises in May.

The Gould Award is presented annually to a faculty member whose dedication, achievement, and love for teaching inspire both students and colleagues. Nominations are made by students and the recipient's identity is kept secret until Commencement when winners receive a commemorative plaque and a check.

Durkin, who has taught at DCCC since 1994, said, "I thank my family, administration, deans, colleagues, staff, and especially DCCC students for supporting me in doing what I love to doÉteach." Student nominations reflected appreciation for Durkin as: "a fun and great teacher"; "[who] made [the subject] fun and interesting"; "[who] brings not only textbook material but real life experience to class"; "[who] went outside the book to bring in guest speakers and expose the class to that the real world is like"; and finally, whose "development of teams and team assignments in and out of class made business fun and exciting."

The Gould Award was established by the late Jerry Gould, one of DCCC's founding trustees. Ms. Gould created the award in the belief that an outstanding faculty is at the heart of education.
