Work Study Program: Students

Do you need extra money? Are you looking for a job that is conveniently located on the campus where you take your classes or in the community where you live? Are you looking for practical work experience in your field of study? If you answered “yes” to these questions, then Work Study is the perfect opportunity for you!

What is Work Study?

Work Study is a program that provides funding for students to work in part-time jobs located on campus or in the local community. Students work 10-20 hours a week and receive a paycheck through the college. Many of the Work Study jobs also provide students with work experience in their field of study.

What is the process for obtaining a Work Study position?

How do I qualify for Work Study?

There are three different types of Work Study available to DCCC students. The largest and most popular type is the Federal Work Study program, funded by the Federal government. To be eligible, students must be receiving financial aid and qualify for Work Study as part of their financial aid package. The college also makes a small amount of money available to students who do not qualify for financial aid. The third and final type of Work Study is for International students who are otherwise unable to work in the US. The College and International Work Study opportunities are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students must maintain half time enrollment (at least 6 credits) to be eligible for employment through the Work Study program.

If you are interested and want to determine your eligibility, contact the Financial Aid office located on the third floor of Founders Hall on main campus or via e-mail at finaid@dccc.edu. If you are an International student, you must see Lydia Dell’Osa, Director of International Services, to qualify.

Where do I submit my timecards and pick up my paychecks?

The Work Study program requires that you complete a timecard for the hours worked every two weeks. The timecard must be signed by your supervisor and returned to the Financial Aid office every other Thursday.

*** Paychecks will be dispersed on Friday of the week following the submission of your timecard. All DCCC employees, including students, have their paycheck deposited directly into a Checking or Savings account. You can specify where you want your paycheck deposited on the direct deposit form which will be given to you with your other payroll forms.

If you are working on campus, your supervisor will supply you with timecards. If you are working off campus, you will be given your first timecard when you turn in your completed payroll paperwork and will receive a new timecard from the Financial Aid office each time you turn in a completed timecard.

*** Please note that if it is not convenient for you to visit main campus to turn in your timecard, it can be sent via interoffice mail from any of the DCCC campuses. Please be sure to leave adequate time for mail delivery.

How many hours am I eligible to work?

The number of hours you can work each week is dependent upon the type of Work Study you have and your financial eligibility. Students working in the College and International Work Study programs can work up to 10 hours per week. Students who qualify for Federal Work Study can work up to 20 hours per week, with a maximum of 499 hours per year, based on their individual financial aid award and eligibility. You will be informed of the pay rate for your position and the number of hours you are eligible to work upon completion of the Work Study Authorization Form and payroll forms.

Can I do Co-op and Work Study?

If you are eligible for both the Co-op and the Work Study programs and the Co-op is an unpaid position at a Work Study eligible location, you can use it as a Co-op opportunity and get paid for your work through the Work Study program.
