3. Application Procedure
Complete the Municipal Police Academy registration form and mail it to the address on the bottom of the form.

Applicants will be advised of the dates for pre-admission testing. Results of the testing will be mailed to applicants and will contain, if applicable:
- Start date of classes
- Dress code
- Billing information
Those who wish to attend the Municipal Police Academy Act 120 Training may be eligible for financial aid. Those who qualify may be eligible for Stafford Loans and/or PELL grants. For further information regarding financial aid, please contact the College’s Financial Aid office at 610-359-5330.

Delaware County Community College was one of the first schools to conduct police academy training for the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission in accordance with Legislative Act 120. It now serves as a leader in providing local and regional departments with the most well qualified and prepared candidates.
The Police Academy provides the basic training (Act 120) curriculum that is required for every municipal police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to work as police officers in Pennsylvania.
The Academy is certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Our faculty includes active chiefs of police, police supervisors, Assistant District Attorneys from Delaware County, and many others in the law enforcement field.
Training and coursework is conducted at Delaware County Community College’s Marple Campus, located at 901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063. In addition, we also conduct mandatory (Act 180) in-service training for current municipal police officers. This training is provided at locations across Delaware and Chester Counties.
The Police Academy has been recognized as one of the best in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission. For more than thirty years, the Police Academy has produced 95% of all police officers in Delaware County, and 75% of the Chester County police force.

The function of the Academy is to provide training that will qualify individuals to perform the duties of a municipal police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. - Who may be admitted into the Academy?
Both sworn and unsworn applicants are eligible for admission. Unsworn applicants are individuals who are pursuing careers in Law Enforcement. Sworn police officers already have police jobs but must attend the Academy to satisfy state training requirements. - Where are classes held?

Full-time (day) classes meet Monday through Friday, 8 AM until 5 PM, for approximately twenty-one (21) weeks. Full-time classes begin in January and July of each calendar year.
Part-time (evening) classes meet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 PM until 10 PM, and on at least nine (9) Saturdays from 8 AM until 5 PM. Part-time classes begin in January of each year and end in December of that same year. - What is the cost of Academy training?
Tuition for the program is $4,098 (effective January 1, 2008), which includes books. - Is there a dress code?
Cadets are required to wear black pants, a white long-sleeve dress shirt, black tie, black belt, black socks and black shoes. - How can I receive additional information on the Academy and/or a registration form?
