Albert Jenkins III '12
A great perk of working for an institution like Delaware County Community College is that you get to know various students during the course of their time on campus. One of those students is Albert Jenkins III '12, who will be graduating this month with an associate degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management. Students can graduate three times a year in either December, May or August; however there is only one Commencement ceremony each spring where degrees are conferred to nearly 500 students. It has been a particular pleasure to see Albert excel within his program. We wish him and his classmate’s great success as they begin the next chapters in their professional careers.
What year did you graduate from Delaware County Community College and with what
degree?
“I will graduate from Delaware County Community College this month with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.”
Did you pursue further academic goals?
“I plan on going on to further my education here at the College with two more certificates. The first will be in the Culinary Arts program and the other will be in Entrepreneurship. These two, along with my first degree, will help with my plan to go into business for myself in a few years.”
Where are you now? What are you doing?
“Right now, I am working at the Hilton Garden Inn in Center City, Philadelphia, to help build my hospitality management skills. As a banquet server, I am building my customer service training as well as enhancing other aspects of the hospitality industry. Hotels are a great place to work because there’s so much to do every day; it is never boring. In my spare time, I am working on my music career, which is my main hobby.”
What is next for you professionally?
“My future goals are to hopefully own a few hotels and help feed those around the world who need help and are less fortunate. No matter your race or the occupation you’re in, everybody still has to eat.”
What advice do you have for your fellow alumni or current students from the College?
“My advice to current students is this: ‘Follow your dreams and set goals.' There will be trials and mountains you may have to go through, but anything is possible with faith. Also, education and obtaining work experience is the key to unlocking a successful future. No matter what degree you are obtaining here at Delaware County Community College, just know you can and will find yourself here.”
