Tutoring Services

Marple Campus

The Learning Center provides peer tutors and professional volunteers each semester to help you succeed in your courses. Tutoring occurs in the Learning Centers or in approved campus locations. It is available for current DCCC students free and you don’t need an appointment.

ABOUT OUR TUTORS:
PEER TUTORS are selected based on grades and faculty recommendations. Most peer tutors have achieved high grades in all of their courses and have excellent academic skills. In addition to assisting with course material, they can offer tips for efficient and effective use of study time.
VOLUNTEER TUTORS are selected based on their knowledge of the subject matter. They are usually retired professionals or part-time faculty members, who have, through their work, acquired expertise in a particular area.

Using the Tutoring Service:

  • To be eligible for tutoring, you must attend the class for which you need tutoring.
  • Check the tutor schedule at the counter in either the Math/Science Learning Center (Room 1180) or the Main Learning Center (Room 4260). You can also request a tutor schedule through the department.
  • Choose a tutor and time convenient for you and go to the appropriate center at the scheduled tutor time. The staff can direct you to the tutor.
  • When you meet with a tutor, please come prepared with your notes, assignments, textbook and syllabus, if needed. Before the tutoring session, try to identify what you need to learn in course content or study skills.
  • Doing your assignments regularly, seeking help from your instructor, and then bringing problems to a tutor will help get the most out of your tutoring experience.
  • If you are making a special trip to the College for tutoring, please call the Learning Center at (610) 325-2776 or the Math/Science Learning Center at (610) 359-5076 to see when a tutor will be available.
  • If you have problems with the schedule or there is no tutor for a particular course you are in, email the tutor coordinator to see if accommodations can be made. You may benefit from online tutoring, now available for some subjects, where tutors at one campus can tutor students at other locations.
