Pennsylvania law guarantees certain benefits to employees who are injured or become ill because of their jobs. Any job-related injury is covered, from minor injuries requiring only first aid to occupational illness or disease. When a College employee is injured or becomes ill because of their job, the most important task is to secure appropriate medical treatment. The injury or illness must be reported according to the following steps:
- The injured employee has the responsibility of reporting the work-related injury immediately to his/her supervisor and call the nurse at the Marple Campus. If the supervisor is not available, the employee must report the injury to the site coordinator or designee. This should be done as soon as an injury occurs or within a 24-hour period. Every accident/injury, regardless of the severity, must be reported and documented.
- The supervisor, site coordinator or designee has the responsibility of completing a Work-Related Incident Report immediately. It must be faxed to the nurse at the Marple Campus (610-325-2834). Do not wait for the supervisor’s signature. The accident must be reported immediately. This should be done before the end of the workday on which the injury occurred. The original Work-Related Incident Report should be mailed directly to Human Resources.
- The nurse at the main campus will fax the report to the insurance carrier, Travelers, and to Human Resources. Human Resources will be sent a confirmation and a claim number for the accident/injury.
- Human Resources will send a copy of the report to the Security and Safety Department.
- In order to assure that medical treatment will be paid for by the insurance carrier, the injured employee must select from one of the designated health care providers listed on the “Posted Panel List.” These lists will be posted at the off-campus sites, and on the College’s Human Resources website. The injured employee must continue to treat with one of the providers listed, if necessary, for 90 days from the date of first visit. The employee has the right to seek treatment (i.e., not involving invasive surgery) or medical consultation from a non-designated provider during the ninety (90) day period, but such services shall be at the employee’s own expense during the applicable period of ninety (90) days.
- The College nurse will follow up with all employees who have been injured. In cases involving lost time, the insurance carrier will contact the employee.
If you have any questions, please call Human Resources at 610-359-5062.
All medical bills and medical reports should be forwarded directly to Travelers, P.O. Box 13933, Reading, PA 19612-3933. Any questions about unpaid bills, employees/physicians can contact them directly at 800-832-0606.
