Financial Aid Application Overview

All Financial Aid applicants must complete the U.S Department of Education's (DE) Free Application for Federal Student Aid for the appropriate aid year (see chart below). The best way to complete this form is online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you do not have Internet access you can get a paper version of the FAFSA by calling USDE at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). Be sure to specify the correct year!

To receive aid for the:     You must complete the:
Summer Term I 2008     2007-2008 FAFSA
Summer Term II 2008     2008-2009 FAFSA
Fall Semester 2008     2008-2009 FAFSA
Spring Semester 2009     2008-2009 FAFSA
Summer I Term 2009     2008-2009 FAFSA
Summer II Term 2009     2009-2010 FAFSA
Fall Semester 2009     2009-2010 FAFSA

Our school code is 007110.

When completed your financial information from the FAFSA will be forwarded to the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) and Delaware County Community College and any other school whose school code you listed on your FAFSA.

PHEAA will use the FAFSA data to determine your eligibility for a Pennsylvania State Grant; there isn't a separate State Grant application in Pennsylvania.

You will receive a Student Aid Report from DE and a Grant Notification Letter from PHEAA. Either or both agencies may request additional information. Be sure to respond in a timely manner to any requests.

DCCC will also receive notification of your federal eligibility and of your state grant eligibility directly from the respective agencies, if you listed us as a school choice on the FAFSA. We will review these for completeness and accuracy (see additional documentation below) and Satisfactory Academic Progress (see below). We will then package any additional financial aid programs that you are eligible for, such as: Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Work/Study, Institutional Scholarships or other programs as available. Then we will put this package on our secure, password protected Internet site and notify you.

Additional Documentation: After you submit your FAFSA to the US Department of Education they submit it to several federal agencies, such as the Social Security Administration to verify that your Social Security Number is correct, to the Selective Service System to verify that you have (if you are male) registered for the Draft, to the Department of Homeland Security to verify that you are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, and possibly to other agencies. If any agency has information that does not agree with the information you submitted on the FAFSA you must resolve this discrepancy before you can receive any federal or state financial aid. The DCCC FAO will help you.

DE also submits the financial information you entered on your FAFSA to a series of edit checks that compare your information to 'norms'. If your information differs significantly from the 'norms' your application will be selected for a process called Verification. You could also be selected randomly. One out of every three FAFSA forms submitted is selected for Verification. If your FAFSA is selected you will be notified on the Student Aid Report. The DCCC FAO must collect copies of financial documents, such as your and your parents IRS 1040 forms, Social Security Administration 1099 forms, Department of Welfare Statement of Benefits, etc. The FAO then compares the data on these documents to the data you submitted on the FAFSA. You must resolve any differences and make corrections with DE before any federal or state aid can be credited to your account. The DCCC FAO will help you.

In compliance with federal and state regulations the DCCC FAO has created a "Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy" and a "Withdrawal and Return of Title IV Funds Policy". A description of these policies is in the DCCC Catalog, online at http://www.dccc.edu/finaid or a paper copy is available at the FAO's in Media, Downingtown and Southeast Center. All Financial Aid Recipients are expected to read and understand these policies. If, after having read the policies, you have questions please ask a Financial Aid Advisor for an explanation. The best way is by emailing your question to the FAO at finaid@dccc.edu.
