Construction Update
You may have noticed some large blue covered objects that have taken over Parking Lot A. These are the new Science Building air handling units. Originally intended for storage by the barn near the astronomy lab, the trailers they arrived on could not properly navigate the area, so these units will remain in Lot A until they are installed.
In addition, some deliveries of steel for the Science building will also have to be stored in the currently closed A lot and if necessary, we may have to close the Lot B or part of it for the overflow. We will hopefully have the B lot reopened by the start of spring semester.
Concrete is being poured on the first floor of the Science building and steel should start being erected the first week of December. Two columns have been poured and erected over the stream near the bus stop with the third and final one scheduled for next week. These columns span the stream and support the second, third and fourth floor of the far end of the Science building.
We are pleased to announce that the amphitheater will soon reopen. The steps have been poured and the planters are now being filled with dirt. Work around the flat areas of the amphitheater and the handrails should be completed by Thanksgiving.
Following the installation of blue stone pavers at the main entrance of Founders Hall, work will now begin on removal of the bricks around the flag poles and the installation of concrete in those areas.
Roof and walls are going up on the TECH building, along with the new roof skylight. The building will soon be enclosed to allow interior work to commence. Curbing as well as the first layer of black top should be installed around the TECH driveway within the next two weeks.
The cooling tower in Parking Lot “J” has also been demolished to make way for new towers which will be installed by the end of this year.
Please keep in mind that factors such as weather, materials, or other obstacles may require schedule changes.
As always, your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact the Plant Operations office at 610-359-5110 room 1247.
