Mission Statement

The Institute for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness at Delaware County Community College provides seminars, workshops, conferences and education to the response community, government agencies, private businesses, transportation entities, utilities and the community at large to create awareness of the protocols and practices required to mitigate problems that may arise as a result of man made or natural disasters.

The training and development programs may include but would not be limited to:

  • Addressing preparedness challenges
  • Enhancing prevention, deterrence, response and recovery from incidents
  • Increasing awareness of issues, policies and procedures
  • Development of capabilities, knowledge and skills
  • Development and enhancement of community outreach strategies
  • Addressing education and training gaps related to prevention and preparedness
  • Identification of special needs populations
  • Customized training for a specific organization
  • Preparation of emergency evacuation plans

The Institute functions under the direction of an oversight board comprised of professionals from police, fire and medical occupations as well as representation from business and industry, County Emergency Services and the Local Emergency Planning Committees.
