MAT 120 ON THE WEB: BRIEF SUMMARY
To get started you
need to register for MyMathLab – the website which
has a lot of great tools to help you succeed in this class. Our study plan,
assignments, PowerPoint presentations, notes, practice tests, useful links and
some graded work will be posted there as well.
For registration
use the access kit that comes with the textbook. If you bought a used book that
doesn’t have this kit, you can purchase it through the bookstore by using the
standalone ISBN: 032119991X.
When you go to www.mymathlab.com,
you’ll see the red button in the left part of the screen that says “Register”.
Press it and follow the step-by-step instructions that will be displayed. For
the course ID enter sviridovsky27152; the course access code is included
in your kit. You must have a valid e-mail address to register. If you need
additional help with the registration process, let me know. The registration must be completed by January 18, 2008.
When you go to our
course on MyMathLab, you’ll always see the
announcements for the week. Some of them are permanent – they were posted there
by the publisher; other ones will be mine. To see the announcements posted by
the instructor, you may need to scroll down. Make sure to check for the new
postings at least once a week. The first announcement that I already
have for you explains how to get familiar with the site. Besides, you are
always welcome to come and see me during the office hours if you have any
questions about MyMathLab.
You’ll have to
complete many graded assignments including the chapter tests during the
semester. The first announcement that you are going to see on the website will
direct you to the course calendar containing important dates and deadlines.
Meeting the deadlines can be quite a challenge. The course calendar allows you
to plan your work from day one and not to fall behind the schedule.
To view most
graded assignments, you’ll need special plug-ins. Make sure to download them
using MyMathLab Installation Wizard link on the home
page of our course.
Note that all chapter tests have to be taken in person.
At the beginning of the semester they will be sent to Main campus. If you prefer another location, you need to
inform the Distance Learning Department which of the testing centers you will
be using (Exton, Downingtown or Southeast). You can do so by sending an
e-mail to distance@dccc.edu
or by calling (610) 359-5158 no less than one week
before the start day of the test. Your e-mail should contain your name and the course information (Modern
College Math I, instructor: Tatiana Sviridovsky).
It’s also very important that you get familiar with the business hours
of the testing center that you’ll be using – this is your responsibility. For
example, some of them will be closed on Saturday. A photo ID is required to
take the test.
Using web helps to
make this class much more exciting and gives you new opportunities to get a
better grade. The home page of the course has the links to Online Student Help
and Math Tutor Center.
