About Distance Learning
DCCC offers 98 online and hybrid courses within a variety of subjects and disciplines.
Online Courses
Our online courses are delivered through a course management system, which allows students 24 hour, 7 days a week access to their courses. Online courses do not require students to login at specific times, as students typically login in on a regular basis to keep up with course requirements, due dates, etc.. While most online courses to provide online examinations, some online courses may require students to take exams in person, at one of our DCCC campuses. Please check with the distance learning department about particular course requirements.
Online courses typically feature:
A welcome message from faculty which includes a course syllabus and an ice breaker activity.
An integrated email and instant messaging system which allows classmates and faculty to interact within each other.
Curriculum that includes lecture notes, study guides, slides, streaming audio and video and other online content.
A combination of traditional and authentic student assessments.
Interactive message forums (asynchronous).
Live chat environments through audio and/or video (synchronous).
Online courses are just as rigorous and demanding as our classroom courses. Students are expected to establish and maintain high levels of involvement and interaction throughout the semester.
Hybrid Courses
Our hybrid courses combine both classroom and online teaching and learning to meet the demands of our growing adult student population. Hybrid courses meet in the classroom on a regular basis (typically 1.5 hours per week) and are supplemented with online lesson plans throughout the week. Classroom attendance is mandatory for all hybrid courses! Hybrid courses offer:
Close interaction within both the classroom and online environment.
Course material that is available to students on demand throughout the semester.
Community based learning outside of the traditional classroom.
Hybrid courses enhance familiarity with technology and improve communication skills, all within a dynamic learning environment.
