
Program Information
The DCCC Interactive Multimedia Certificate courses were developed in response to the growing needs of students who wish to design and develop interactive multimedia programs and WWW pages. Thus, this program is intended to train students in the development of World Wide Web (WWW) pages and Computer-Based Training (CBT) applications that employ a variety of audio and visual media including animation, video and graphics.Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be able to
- Identify aspects of effective multimedia and Web applications.
- Complete all elements of the design and development process of a multimedia and Web application including instructional design, storyboarding, media selection, digitizing and interface design.
- Present a multimedia and Web project that demonstrates the skills developed in the various courses.
Five courses currently comprise the Multimedia/Web Certificate program. These courses include Introduction to Multimedia and Web Development, Multimedia Design and Development I, Multimedia Design and Development II, Web Page Design and Development and Programming for the Web. All courses are open to the general public.
Overview of Courses
Introduction to Multimedia and Web Development (3 credits)
This course provides students with an introduction to multimedia, the World Wide Web (WWW) and instructional design as it applies to their professional applications to the new media industry. Several currently available tools used to develop multimedia and WWW programs are discussed. Students will learn how to design effective multimedia and WWW applications, and are also introduced to instructional design, content organization, interactivity and interface design.Multimedia Design and Development I (3 credits)
This course provides students with the skills needed to design and develop interactive multimedia materials for stand-alone, network and WWW use. Students will learn several of the currently available software tools (Adobe Photoshop, Sonic Fondry Sound Forge XP and Ulead Media Studio Pro) used to produce creative multimedia programs. This course also includes an introduction to Macromedia Authorware which students use to develop multimedia projects employing student-selected themes.Multimedia Design and Development II (3 credits)
This course is intended to expand the student's knowledge learned in Multimedia Design and Development I. Students will explore the more sophisticated capabilities of Authorware such as custom buttons, functions, variables, calculation icons, sequential branching, and Shockwave technology.Web Page Design and Development (3 credits)
This course introduces the students to publishing on the World Wide Web (WWW) using Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML) and other Web development tools. Students will receive a hands-on experience in creating Web pages that include text, images and animation. Concepts and features of the World Wide Web will also be studied.Programming for the Web (3 credits)
This hands-on course is designed to familiarize the student with the computer programming languages used to enhance and develop World Wide Web (WWW) pages.
