Online Science Resources (available via the DCCC Library database page)

The DCCC Library subscribes to two online databases, EBSCO Academic Search Elite and  Wilson OmniFile Full Text Select which provide full text access to scholarly journal articles.  These databases are relatively easy to use and cover thousands of journals in all disciplines including the sciences. In addition, the DCCC Library subscribes to an online biology encyclopedia called the Encyclopedia of Life Sciences.  All three online science resources can be accessed remotely from any computer with an internet connection.  Each resource requires a user name and a password that can be obtained from your Biology professor or at the DCCC Library.  These logins are case-sensitive and are changed at the end of every school year.

EBSCO Academic Search Elite: Provides citations, abstracts, and full text access to over 1,800 scholarly journals, some 1,300 of which are "peer-reviewed".  After you login, click on the link "Academic Search Elite" to go to the search page.  Not all the articles in EBSCO are in full-text!  To search just the full text articles, put a check in the box marked "Full Text" on the main search page.  As with the Wilson database, all articles may be viewed on the screen, printed, emailed to yourself, or downloaded to a diskette.

Wilson OmniFile Full Text Select: Published by the same company as the Science Citation Index, this database provides full text access to popular and scholarly articles, including many in the sciences.  Many of these are quality, peer reviewed journals -- All the articles in this database are in full text format! The articles may be viewed on the screen, printed, emailed to yourself, or downloaded to a diskette. http://vnweb.hwwilsonweb.com/hww/login.jhtml

Online Encyclopedia of Life Sciences (One User At A Time): Provides the full text of scholarly encyclopedia articles in the biological sciences including cell & molecular biology, microbiology, plant science, evolution, ecology, etc. (Results of searches are marked with "I" to indicate an introductory level article and "S" as secondary, "advanced undergrads, graduates & researchers" per publisher.) Because this database may be used by only one person at a time, please log out or close your browser window when you are done. http://www.els.net
