AHS 200 - Surgical Technology III

This course is a continuation of Surgical Technology II. Knowledge and techniques basic to effective performance as a scrubbed team member in the operating room are stressed. The responsibilities of the surgical technologist in the care and safety of the patient during and after the surgical intervention in the general and specialty fields of surgery are reviewed. Adaptation utilizing change-agent theory and conflict resolution approaches is discussed.

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Identify operative procedures, surgical instruments, accessory items and suture materials used in surgery of the eye.
  • Identify operative procedures, surgical instruments, accessory items and suture materials used in plastic reconstructive surgery.
  • Identify operative procedures, surgical instruments, accessory items and suture materials used in pediatric surgery.
  • Identify operative procedures, surgical instruments, accessory items and suture materials used in surgery of the burn, trauma and transplant patient.

Prerequisite: A “C” or better in Surgical Technology II (AHS 102) and Surgical Technology Practicum II (AHS 103).

Co-requisite: Surgical Technology Practicum III (AHS 201).

3 hours lecture one day a week 1 credit
