AHN 295 - Geriatric Wound Prevention and Care
This course explores the fundamentals concepts of wound formation in the elderly along with wound prevention and treatment techniques. Emphasis will be placed on the observation and recognition of wound formation of vascular pressure and diabetic ulcers, along with the assistant's role in the wound care process.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Describe the causes of wound development in the geriatric population.
- Explain the importance of wound prevention measures in the elderly.
- Identify optimal wound care procedures for the elderly.
Prerequisites: High School diploma or GED and experience/education as a nurse aid.
