Academic Advising

Selecting the right classes and choosing a major is challenging for both new and continuing students. That is why our academic advisors are available year round to help you plan and schedule your coursework. We encourage you to take advantage of this invaluable resource to keep you on target in reaching your educational goals.

Following are some answers to common questions students ask our academic advisors:

How can I meet with an advisor?
Our advisors are available by appointment Monday through Friday and both day and evening appointments are available. You can schedule an appointment by calling Learner Services at 484.237.6210 (Downingtown) or 610.450.6510 (Exton).

Is there a guide or something to help me plan my schedule?
We have made it easy for you. Download our Schedule Planning Checklist which outlines every step of the process.

How do I know what courses to take?
Each semester you will receive a degree audit that lists your major and the courses that are required to complete your certificate program or associate's degree. You can also access this information in the Career Programs section of DCCC College catalog.

How do I know what courses can be transferred to a four-year college?
We have transfer agreements with over forty area colleges and universities. Your academic advisor can help you to review these agreements to see which courses you will need for a successful transfer. You can also review our College and University Transfer Programs for more information.

Do I have to take all of my courses at the same location each semester?
As a student at DCCC you can take courses at any of our locations throughout both Delaware and Chester Counties. The choice is yours.

How do I know if I can get credit for courses I took at another college?
The first step is to contact the college you previously attended and ask them to send an official transcript directly to DCCC. Next, you should meet with your advisor and complete a Petition for Transfer of Credit form. Once we receive your transcript, it will be evaluated for transfer of credit for any appropriate college level coursework.

How do I decide on a major if I'm not sure what I want to do after college?
It is very common to be unsure of a major when you first start college. You will most likely begin to get some ideas during your first few semesters. Our advisors and career counselors can also help you clarify your goals. We encourage you to utilize these resources, as well as participate in our workshops to help you to set your goals and plan for the future.

Additional academic advising and counseling information is available through the Student Services section of our website.
