New Choices / New Options

Is This Service For Me?

New Choices is a free program that offers career assessment and guidance, goal planning, job search skills and job placement assistance. Classes in basic computer skills and math remediation may also be included. Upon completion, graduates have a foundation to re-enter the work force and seek employment, and/or enter training to further upgrade skills. New Choices serves unemployed/under-employed individuals, single parents and divorced, separated, widowed, and married individuals of limited income.

A companion program, New Options, assists individuals interested in careers non-traditional to gender (i.e., women in engineering, men in nursing). Services provided to participants include career research and guidance, skill and interest assessment, internships and tuition aid (when available). Income eligibility is required.

Who Will Provide This Service?

All counselors in the New Choices/New Options program hold at least a Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field. All members of the staff specialize in career development and/or women’s issues.

What Will This Service Do For Me?

New Choices/New Options helps individuals explore their potential, regain lost confidence, choose career goals and develop a plan to reach those goals. The program provides small group workshops and individual counseling/support.

Topics covered during the workshop sessions include:

  • Decision-making and goal-setting
  • Building self-esteem
  • Assessment of interests, skills and values
  • Researching careers and job markets
  • Identifying career options
  • Resume/cover letter building
  • Networking
  • Employer contacts
  • Interviewing techniques
  • Success on the job

Call the New Choices/New Options office at 610-359-5232 or stop in at the Main Campus, Room 1301. The next step will be a brief intake interview to determine whether New Choices/New Options can meet your needs.

How Do I Register?

If you are eligible, New Choices staff will register you for this service.

When Is This Service Offered?

Nine-week sessions are offered in January, March and September. Day and evening classes are available. Services are offered at the Marple campus, the Southeast Center and in Exton or Downingtown.

This is a free service to those who are eligible.
