Delaware County Community College

Responsibilities of Students

Students have the responsibility for choosing the program and courses that best meet their educational, career and personal goals.

  1. Take responsibility for your education.
  2. Be aware of the academic policies of the college (most of which are found in the student handbook or the course catalog).
  3. Be aware of the requirements for graduation from DCCC (all of which are found in the DCCC Course Catalog).
  4. Recognize that the decisions you are making are important ones and enable yourself to make the best choices. If you feel you need help with Decision Making Try Our On-Line Workshop.
  5. Know who your advisor is. Also, be aware that you have the option of coming to the Career and Counseling Center to meet with an advisor regardless of who you are assigned to.
  6. Take advantage of the academic services provided by DCCC (ex: use the Learning Center or the Writing Center).
  7. Set a goal for yourself. Are you following a current major? Do you know what career you will pursue when you finish? If you are uncertain, seek Career Counseling or attend Focus on Your Future workshops to help decide.
  8. Create an academic plan for yourself. How long should you attend DCCC? Will you graduate or transfer to another college without graduating? Which choice will benefit you the most? Seek help from your advisor if you are unsure.
  9. Speak to an advisor once per semester. If you choose a schedule independently or create your academic plan independently, meet with your advisor anyway. Share your plans with your advisor and ask for recommendations or comments.
