How to Prepare for Your Advising Appointment
- Read the "Responsibilities of Student" and "Responsibilities of Advisors" lists to understand what is expected of you and what to expect from your advisor.
- Bring your course catalog.
- Read through the requirements in your major and try to create a basic plan for the upcoming semester.
- Know in advance how many courses you would like to register for. For example, if you need to be a full-time student, you need to register for four classes. If you are working full-time, you may only want to register for one or two courses.
- Parents are welcome to attend advising appointments with students provided that the student has requested their presence. If you feel like the information might be overwhelming or you are confused, it is an option to invite a parent, friend or other relative.
