The Spirit of Service

Serving in your community has numerous benefits. Whether you are helping to clean up the environment, feeding the needy or building/repairing a home, the smile that says thank you for your help is priceless! Community service is an experience that will stay with you for a lifetime.

What We Do

We offer many opportunities for individual and group projects. Organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, The March of Dimes, and the Adopt-a-Highway program offer a great way to make friends, have fun, and help people. The Campus Life Office promotes many projects; however, continued success of this office depends on involvement from students like you!

We Can Help You Become Involved

The Campus Life Office offers individual and group experiences, on and off campus. Adopt-a-Highway serves as an example of how you can become involved in community service and not leave the main campus. Simply sign up to donate three hours each semester to pick up litter on the roads that surround the main campus. You provide a wonderful service to your community while being able to easily fit it into your schedule.

Many clubs and organizations, and some faculty, sponsor group service projects. We can assist you in getting started with one of these projects. If you prefer an individual placement with a local non-profit agency, the Campus Life Office keeps a resource file of organizations and agencies in the area and the type of volunteers they are seeking. We can help you find the area of service that best fits you!

Creating Your Future

Community service is a fantastic way to blend classroom learning with life experience. It provides the opportunity for developing new skills and gaining valuable experience. You can even target the type of service you would like to do so that you develop the skills you are seeking. If you have a career field in mind serving in that field will help you make an informed decision. Community service gives you the opportunity to gain experience, increase your skills, and become involved in the community.

Check out the Community Service Bulletin boards around campus for current opportunities or contact the Campus Life Office for more information.
