DEAN DEMOPOULOS

Lead assistant coach of the Portland NBA franchise since 2005, with newly-named head coach Nate McMillan. The pair served in tandem the previous four years with the Seattle SuperSonics.

A native of Upper Darby, Dean excelled on the Delaware County Community College basketball team where he was named to the Eastern Pennsylvania Community College Champion Team.


Graduated in 1975 and later received a bachelor's degree in comprehensive social sciences from West Chester University.

Launched his coaching career at Kennett High School; then joined the college ranks in 1983 as an assistant to John Chaney at Temple University.


During his 17 year stint, the Owls were transformed into a national basketball powerhouse, amassing a 393-151 record, making 16 NCAA Tournament appearances and advancing to the Elite Eight four times.


Guided 14 future NBA players, including current stars Eddie Jones, Aaron McKie and the 2000-01 NBA Rookie of the Year runner-up Marc Jackson.

Head coach at the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 2001, a season the Kangaroos were ranked in the top 10 nationally in several categories, including fewest turnovers per game, scoring defense, and free-throw percentage.


Part of the Sonics coaching staff that led the team to the playoffs twice in four years, including a Northwest Division Championship in the 2004-05 season.

McMillan praised Demopoulos upon joining the Trail Blazers staff:



“Dean is a very good coach and teacher and I believe he will be a great fit here as we try to build our program. His ability to mentor younger players will be a great asset given the youth of our team.”


SCOTT NEELY

Self-described design-o-strator (designer and illustrator) for layout and design, storyboarding and developing original artwork in pen and ink, color, mixed media and digitally.

Approved “Scooby-Doo” artist, including such licensed properties as Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls and Ed, Edd n Eddy. He has also lent his talents to Pokemon, Mickey Mouse Club, Winnie the Pooh and Strawberry Shortcake.

Visual creator and production designer of Hollywood Hal & Rhinestone Al with the Wannabees, a project he co-conceived with Scott Innes (the voice of Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and Scrappy-Doo) and musician Jim Hogg.


Originates artwork for the Hal & Al live-action TV show, live stage shows, advertising, media and products.

Illustrated children's books and comic books and created customized caricatures and technical drawings for a variety of businesses as freelance artist.

Managing editor for NMA Magazines, publisher of Dining and Entertainment and Family Values.

Voice and visual designer behind Delaware County Magazine.

“Have Pencil, Will Draw,” brings his knowledge to colleges, community arts centers and AARP meetings, conveying the art of cartooning to individuals of all ages.



Scott and his Yorkshire terrier, Alfie, about whom he is devising a comic series and children's book, live in the Philadelphia suburbs.


BLAKE JOFFE

Executive Chef at Bar Ferdinand, an authentic tapas restaurant in Philadelphia's Northern Liberties.

Studied at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia, contacting the top five Michelin-rated restaurants in San Sebastian, Spain, offering his services for the chance to learn savory skills and Basque cuisine.

Interned one year under Chef Pedro Subjana while also working in a tapas bar to study the specialty.


Joined artist Owen Kamihira in Philadelphia to conceive Bar Ferdinand, planning the kitchen design, hiring staff and creating a menu of unique dishes paired with “vino” and “cerveza.” Won the 2007 Iron Chef competition of Pa.

Preferred Best Chef, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture at Reading Terminal Market.

Will represent the southeastern portion of the state in the Commonwealth finals in January 2008, competing against last year's winner and the best chefs from the other four regions.



BRIAN CIACH

Received acclaim as a pianist and composer for his vivid performances.

Performed from-memory Richard Wernick's “Piano Sonata No. 1” in his master's degree 2004 piano recital at Temple University's Boyer College of Music, inspiring music critic Bernard Jacobson to write, “I assure you [his] is a name you will be hearing much of in the not too distant future.”

Educator in piano, theory, composition and aural skills.



Premiered many new works at various prominent concert halls, which have included Carnegie Hall, the Curtis Institute of Music, Settlement Music School, Philadelphia Ethical Society and West Chester University.

Taught all levels of music theory, private composition lessons at West Chester University, Delaware County Community College, Darlington Arts Center and Settlement Music School and Temple University.

Founding member of the Philadelphia Composers Society, a group of musicians, composers and artists who present, perform and discuss new and old music.

Received his bachelor's and master's degrees in performance piano from Temple University.

Currently an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in the Ph.D. composition program at the University of Pennsylvania.



WARREN A. HUNTER, JR.

Principal, President and Chief Executive Officer of DMW Worldwide LLC, a full-service direct response advertising agency specializing in insurance, financial services and fund raising firm, with offices in Wayne, Norristown, St. Louis and Plymouth, Massachusetts.

95-employee firm, whose local clients include Independence Blue Cross, Advanta Business Card, Comcast, Mid Atlantic AAA and WHYY, ranks 38th on the Advertising Age “Top 50 Direct Marketing Agencies” list and 6th in the Philadelphia Business Journal register of “Top 25 Advertising Agencies”.


Guided The McClure Group, a direct response ad agency, to seven years of double-digit growth, remaining on the board as Chief Marketing Officer through the 1995 merger of three agencies to form DMW Worldwide, then leading the charge seven years later to purchase the companyto create DMW Worldwide LLC.

Won numerous awards, including the prestigious Telly Award, National Health Information Award, Mature Media Award and Benjamin Franklin Award for Marketing Excellence.

Named the Philadelphia Direct Marketing Association and Professional Insurance Marketing Association 2006 Philadelphia Direct Marketer of the Year.



Nearly 30 years in voluntary Bible education and weekly community service activities.

Avid supporter of the American Cancer Society, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Arthritis Foundation and serves on the board of the advertising, public relations and marketing APG Committee at Penn State.

Received a B.A. in advertising the from the Pennsylvania State University School of Journalism.


JOSIE KAPUSTA-SINGER

Executive Director of the International Ballet Classique (IBC), a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Russian classical ballet and new and creative ideas in the arts.

Responsibilities include marketing, promotion, fundraising and grant writing, and serves as the production manager for performances and outreach programs.

The Academy of International Ballet (official school of IBC) was formed in partnership with Denis Gronostayskiy and his wife, Anastasia Babayeva, who both trained and performed with the famed Bolshoi Ballet School and Bolshoi Ballet Theater.


Seeks to expand the opportunities of those who study and dance with the company by inviting other internationally acclaimed artists to instruct and perform.

Hopes of expanding to the Greater Philadelphia area, other states and overseas; long-term goal to provide cultural exchange by bringing selected dancers to Russia for study and performance.

Obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in history from West Chester University.

Conducted research in the art of dance and its effect upon various cultures, has lectured at Rosemont College and Arcadia University and is an instructor in American history and modern Europe at Neumann College.




DAN MCCORMICK

Artistic Director of The New Millennium Theater Company, a talented actor and playwright, who has created more than 25 works for the stage.

Ranked among the nation’s most accomplished playwrights by director and former literary manager of the New Dramatists.

Won first prize in the 2005 Nebraska State Thespian Festival for “On The Day and The Days That Followed,” a full-length dramatic production about a playwright and four unemployed actors awaiting word from a friend who worked in the World Trade Center, and was produced the same year at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln.


Appeared in film and television ; on stage in New York, Los Angeles; and regional theater in Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Commissioned by Plays For Living to update, revise and direct “Where Does It End,” which successfully toured several high schools in and around Manhattan.

Finalist in the Eugene O'Neill Festival with his all African-American cast play, “The Magpie Tree,” three-time finalist with a variety of one acts in the Samuel French Festival.

Conducted research in the art of dance and its effect upon various cultures, has lectured at Rosemont College and Arcadia University and is an instructor in American history and modern Europe at Neumann College.



Works include “The Return of Devin Darby,” a dramatic reflection of his working-class roots in Philadelphia; “When Summer Falls,” a comedic drama about Lower East Side squatters; “The Palm Trees on Guanaja Island,” a World War II drama with a mostly Spanish-American cast set on an island paradise bracing for a hurricane; and “A Little Get Together,” a comedy about the search for love and sexual identity in the 21st century.

Obtained a B.S. degree from Drexel University and is certified in arts and education from Marymount Manhattan College.

Drama coordinator and guest lecturer at high schools and colleges.


CAPTAIN E. J. QUINN, USN

Took command of the USS Antietam, one of the Navy's highly select “Smart Ships” equipped with the Aegis Combat System September 2004 . Operations on the guided missile cruiser Antietam are paperless, with all messages, daily reports and correspondence transmitted electronically, charts that display waters anywhere in the world and the ship's real-time position with GPS accuracy measured in feet.

Deployed in 2005 as air defense commander, USS Carl Vinson strike group with Antietam, a tour including 116 days of operations in the Arabian Gulf to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.


The cruiser served as flagship for a Royal Australian Navy flag officer and his staff, the first-ever Aegis cruiser embarked by a foreign flag officer. Antietam escorted, conducted maritime security operations and directed Iraqi oil platform defense at Abot and Kaaot oil terminals in the North Arabian Gulf war zone.


Received a B.A. in political science from Amherst College and earned his commission at Navy Officer Candidate School. As a Navy political-military specialist, he holds masters' degrees in national security affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School and international relations from the Naval War College.

Assignments have included the USS Brewton, USS Ouellet, USS Texas, USS Princeton, and as commanding officer on the USS Curtis Wilbur, navigating throughout the Western Pacific; assistant chief of staff for operations on the staff of Commander, Sixth Fleet, embarked on the USS Lasalle, which was deployed to the Black Sea, Adriatic Sea and throughout the Mediterranean.



Earned the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Enlisted Good Conduct Medal.

Appointed Honorary Navy Chief Petty Officer in 2000.

Current shore duty is Executive Officer, Tactical Training Group Atlantic, at the Navy's fleet synthetic training center of excellence at Dam Neck.
