Alumni News and Updates

Each spring, the College celebrates the success of its student body with the time-honored tradition of Commencement. This year, there are many students who will be leaving as graduates only to return as active alumni and committee volunteers. One student in particular, Lynda Lichti, has achieved numerous honors and, along with several others, would like to start a new alumni chapter for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society starting in the fall of 2012. We congratulate Lynda as well as all those who will be taking part in Commencement on May 17.
What year did you graduate from Delaware County Community College and with what
degree?
"I will be graduating in May with an Associate of Science Degree in Psychology. I am also graduating as the secretary for both Phi Theta Kappa and the Student Government Association, as well as serving as a student representative on the Academic Affairs Committee."
Did you pursue further academic goals?
"I will be enrolling in West Chester University this fall and plan to pursue a Master's Degree in Psychology with a Communications Minor."
Where are you now? What are you doing?
"While I have received many awards over the last few months, I am most proud to be one of only two students from the College named to the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team, which includes a full scholarship to any of the state's 14 universities."
What is next for you professionally?
"I am working with several members of Phi Theta Kappa, including my fellow graduates Steffi Reinstein and Elisa Ford, to start an alumni chapter at the College. This chapter will be part of the larger alumni association beginning in the fall. Our goal is to help current students gain the most from their experience within Phi Theta Kappa as well as help raise the profile of our chapter to the next level in healthy academic competition! If you are a present or past member of Phi Theta Kappa and would like to get involved, please let us know by sending an email to alumni@dccc.edu as we get organized during the summer months."
What advice do you have for your fellow alumni or current students from the College?
"For Students: Make friends and mentors. Get involved and be willing to do more than your share of the work and expect less than your share of the credit. Humility goes a long way. If you haven't found your dream job or have doubts, don't give up."
"For Alumni: Be proud of where you came from and stay in touch with your school and the Alumni Association. They can still help you, and current students will need your help. Remember your humble beginnings and give back to those who are walking the path you once did as strong, dedicated leaders who are willing to work hard to prove themselves."
"For everyone: A willingness to work, to be of service to help, to be positive and set a good example are some of the qualities that grow inside leaders. Strive to be that kind of person and you will fully capitalize on your education."
"In closing, congratulations to my fellow graduates and thank you to all who have contributed to my successes while taking classes at the College."
For more information about the future Phi Theta Kappa alumni group, send an email to alumni@dccc.edu and someone from the group will be in contact with further details.
