Act 101


ACT 101 is a program for residents of Pennsylvania who are educationally underprepared and who need financial assistance to prepare them for college-level courses. 

The ACT 101 Program began on the campus of Delaware County Community College in 1974. It's purpose is to provide educational support services to strengthen academic skills and increase confidence in the student's ability to achieve. Students participating in ACT 101 have the unique opportunity to improve their skills in English, reading and mathematics before starting the regular college experience. 

Eligibility for the ACT 101 Program

  • Academic
    Prospective students must take the DCCC Placement Test. Program participation is based upon test results.
  • Economic
    Eligibility is based upon adjusted gross family income.
    To establish qualification for Financial Aid, students must complete the PELL/PHEAA Grant Application.

Supportive Services

  • Counseling
    Counseling services are a fundamental and important ingredient of the ACT 101 Program. The program's counseling services help students realize their personal and educational goals.

    Professional counselors in the ACT 101 Program work both individually and in groups to provide help in the following areas:
    • Orienting students to the College and the ACT 101 Program
    • Assisting students in career planning and decision-making
    • Academic advising and course selection
    • Assisting students in values clarification and self-concept development
    • Personal counseling
    • Transfer Counseling
  • Tutoring
    • Free tutoring services are available for all ACT 101 students
    • Provided by professional, experienced staff who encourage students to become independent learners
    • Summer Program: tutoring lab sessions are required
    • During the fall and spring semesters is scheduled at the convenience of the students
    • Computers are available for word processing reports and papers as well as for individual enrichment in many subject areas
    • Study Skills workshops and individual sessions in time management, note taking, memory techniques, and test taking are available each semester

Summer Program

The ACT 101 Summer Program is an intensive, free program geared to making your transition to college life a smooth and meaningful experience. The program is designed to enhance the skills you need for your academic success and individual growth.

The program includes:

Courses:
  • Developmental Reading
  • Developmental English (includes Speech)
  • Basic or Developmental Mathematics
   
Tutoring:

Structured lab sessions with professional tutors are required for each course:

  • Study Skills to aid in better reading, organizing, notetaking, time management and test taking.
  • Computer use and word processing.
   
Counseling: Both group and individual sessions to explore career and personal development.
   
Cost: Free for eligible students.

If you cannot attend the Summer Program, we will consider you for the fall semester. Students who enter in the fall or spring semesters receive free tutoring and counseling services only. Tuition must be paid by the student.
