Perkins Support Services
In 1990 Congress passed the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Act and awarded Delaware County Community College a grant to assist students in Career Majors and Occupational Programs are automatically eligible to take advantage of Perkins Support if they fall in one of six categories below.
- Non-traditional - Students in a major where 75% of the students are of the opposite gender; such as males in nursing and women in the technologies.
- Disabled - Students who are physically challenged or have a documented learning disability.
- Limited English Proficiency - English as a Second Language (ESL) students are included in this category.
- Academically Underprepared - Students enrolled in developmental courses.
- Economically Disadvantaged - Students receiving financial aid.
- Single Parents/Displaced Homemakers - Students, women and men, who are single parents or homemakers returning to education (married homemakers, separated, divorced, widowed or spouse disabled).
The goal of the Perkins Support Services is to assist students in becoming successful in college by helping them obtain higher Grade Point Averages (GPAs) and to increase the job placement rate of those in career and occupational majors.
What Services Are Available?
Professional Tutoring
Free tutoring by professional tutors is available in the Perkins Tutorial Lab located in Room 1175 located on the first floor of the Academic Building. English, reading, science, math, accounting, history, psychology and sociology are the among the subjects tutored. Appointments are scheduled weekly by request, but walk-ins are welcome when space is available.

Free Workshops
- Focus on Your Future Workshops - A series of free Career Workshops through the Career and Counseling Center is open to all students.
- Study Skills Workshops - A free series of workshops is offered each semester through the Perkins Tutorial Lab on subjects including: Time Management, Note Taking and Outlining, Memory Techniques and Test Preparation and Test Taking. Stop by Room 1175 for a schedule.
Academic Advising
Individualized academic, career, and personal counseling are available to all students currently registered at the college. Specific information on academic advising can be found on DCCC's advising website.
Who is Eligible for Perkins Support?
Any student enrolled in a Career Major or Occupational Program who falls into one of the following categories is automatically eligible for Perkins Support Services: non-traditional, physically or learning disabled, students in developmental courses, those receiving financial aid and single parents or displaced homemakers. Where are the Perkins Support Services Located?
