Ways to Support the College

Annual Fund

You may restrict your gift to the Annual Fund to support for scholarships, programs, faculty development or capital projects. Unrestricted gifts are also welcome and greatly valued because they allow the College to respond to unexpected challenges and emerging opportunities.

The 2012 Annual Fund Campaign focuses on Dreamkeepers, a program in its second year to support  students facing unforeseen financial emergencies. The $75,000 Dreamkeepers grant requires that matching funds be raised over a three year period. Last year, over $28,000 was raised toward the first year's required match of $25,000.

Dreamkeepers

In 2010, Delaware County Community College was fortunate to receive a $75,000 Dreamkeepers grant – one of only 13 awarded nationwide. Dreamkeepers was created by Scholarship America™ to assist community college students who might otherwise be forced to drop out of school when facing a financial crisis. Unforeseen financial emergencies are reported as one of the top reasons community college students drop out.

The Dreamkeepers grant is significant because of the College’s commitment to student success, and it complements our participation in the national Achieving the Dream initiative whose goal is to help more community college students succeed. Dreamkeepers empowers students to overcome financial emergencies. It connects students to support systems and provides an online financial literacy tool that helps educate them on critical financial management skills.

During 2011, the College was able to assist 45 students with essential needs such as transportation, child care, utility bills, car repairs, even food. Out of the 45 students who received assistance, only four withdrew from the College. Our success rate reinforces Dreamkeepers' claim that emergency financial assistance helps to retain students as they pursue their academic careers.

The 2012 Annual Fund is once again focused on raising matching funds for the Dreamkeepers program, a requirement of the grant. You can help to make a difference in the life of students who need an extra measure of support to succeed. Their success also benefits the College and the community that we share. Scholarships

Scholarships are critical for College students who cannot afford the full cost of their education. Thanks to the support of our many constituents, the College’s Educational Foundation awards more than $200,000 in scholarship support each year. The Foundation’s Scholarship and Awards brochure lists 120 programs of support that recognize students, faculty and staff for their accomplishments in the classroom and throughout the College community.

Donors wishing to establish a scholarship may award an annual scholarship or create an endowed scholarship in perpetuity.

Annual scholarships may be established in any amount and will be presented in the full amount to the students who meet the guidelines established by the donor.

Endowed scholarships provide a permanent source of scholarship aid. They are established with a gift of $10,000 or more, which is placed in the Foundation’s investment portfolio. A portion of the interest generated from the endowed scholarship fund is awarded annually to the students who meet the guidelines established by the donor.

Annual and endowed scholarships may be named for the donor, a loved one, a corporation, foundation or organization. To learn more about establishing and naming a scholarship at the College, please contact the Executive Director of the Delaware County Community College Educational Foundation.
