45th Anniversary

For Delaware County Community College, there is no better way to celebrate an anniversary than to showcase successful alumni. The 45th anniversary event was held at Harrah’s Philadelphia on September 28. Continuing a tradition begun at the 35th anniversary celebration in 2002 when 35 alumni were selected as “Star Alumni,” five additional alumni were honored at the 45th anniversary event and prior to that at the 40th anniversary. The galaxy of stars now encompasses 45 individuals with the 2012 selection of the five individuals listed below.
Recent graduates, known as Rising Stars, were also honored. They were Johnny Archer ’06, Esther Castillo ’06, Hiu Sin Cheung ’06 and Dr. Catherine Porter ’97.
Also presented on this occasion was the Wong Moss Outstanding Alumni Award, which recognizes individuals who have been outstanding in their careers, educational achievements and community services. The 2012 recipient was Joseph J. Oaster, Jr. ’89 whose dedication to teaching literacy in the inner city won the hearts of the selection committee. His award was presented by John Moss on behalf of his mother, Barbara Wong Moss, a former member of the College Board of Trustees, now deceased who created the award in honor of her Chinese immigrant father.

2012 Wong Moss Award Winner
